The Irwin Guide To Trading Systems
Published in Hardcover by McGraw-Hill Professional (March, 1989)
Author: Bruce Babcock
Average review score:

Still relevant after all these years
Very readable, witty and entertaining. Much of the concepts emphasized in the book are essentials of trading. Whilst alot may be now accepted as common knowledge, there remains an enduring quality to this book. Some of the stuff will undoubtedly be very dated (such as references to software etc.). Other issues have remained unresolved (to optimize or not, and how much to optimize). Still other aspects will always be relevant. Personally, I think many traders, at any level will enjoy reading this book, which must be regarded as a classic.

If forced to own only one book on futures this would be it!
Bruce Babcock's book is spectacular. It cuts through all the nonsense in futures trading and reveals what is essential to surviving. Mr. Babcock provides lucid and honest evaluations of popular trading systems. The chapter on optimization is extremely useful. Wonderful book!! Far superior to most of the trash out there.

A must for a system developer
Published in 1989 ! A great guide to trading systems. Recommended !

Yay
I actually bought this book (and the 4 after it) in France, and it's such a great story (even in french) I'm so glad they translated it and released it over here in America, so more people can enjoy it.

Great work
I wish more European comic books were available in the US. I bought Peter Pan in Los Angeles in the triple-X section of a comic book store (Golden Apple). What a joke! I've read most of Loisel's work and it is really good. There are numbers of European comic books that are as good as this and even better. I wonder if they will ever be imported.

beauty
THIS COMIC BOOK IS SO INCREDIBLE TO READ FOR EVERYONE NO MATTER WHAT AGE YOU ARE IT WILL TOUCH YOUR HEART.THE ARTIST LOISEL HAS AN AMZING WAY OF DRAWING IN THE EUROPEAN COMIC WORLD PETERPAN IS MY FAVORITE

Ritual and Spontaneity in the Psychoanalytic Process: A Dialectical-Constructivist View
Published in Paperback by Analytic Press (January, 2002)
Author: Irwin Z. Hoffman
Average review score:

Clinical psychoanalysis at its best.
Hoffman has written a suberb book on cliincal theory and process. He not only has a deep understanding and respect for psychoanalytic schools of the past, but he is extending contempory psychoanalytic theory and practice and does so with creativity, humanity and eloquence. The dialectical-constructivist view elaborated upon in this book includes many features. Three features that have particular interest for me are the interplay of the givens of reality and the latitute for interpretive choices, the dialectic of meaning and mortality, and the dialectic between noninterpretive and interpretive interactions. Hoffman provides lenghty clinical illustrations that have had considerable impact on the way I understand interpersonal interactions. I am making this book a required text for my clinical seminar at my psychoanalytic institute. I think my students will benefit greatly from the honesty and talent revealed in Ritual and Sponteneity in the Psychoanalytic Process. I certainly have learned a great deal from reading this book.

A Unique, Subtle Mix of Constructivist/Existential Thinking
Hoffman pushes social constructivist thinking into realms where few have attempted to tread. Beyond his uniquely subtle, ironic portrayal of the process of social construction, Hoffman takes on an even greater challenge: explaining why--within our subjective worlds of (constructed) meanings--there inevitably lurks a universal tension over the possibility of meaninglessness, a potential disorder within any sense of order. His explanation pushes constructivism into an existential realm--to the "horizon" where the awareness of the certainty of death (and the potential insignificance of life) exist in dialectical counterpoint with our constructed worlds of meaning. Most dramatically, by moving contemporary psychoanalytic discourse into this region, Hoffman is able to re-frame our understanding of many human dilemmas--from the child's experience of the role of parents to the patient's experience and expectations of the therapist/analyst. Caveat lector: you may never again see many familiar issues in the same way.

Stimulating, challenging, and very readable.
Careful, elegant reasoning and diligent research combined with flashes of humor and irony. It is a very clear and readable presentation of a "constructivist" point of view--that the patient and the analyst co-construct reality rather than the detached analyst objectively uncovering the truth; which challenges many basic assumptions about the role and the manner of the therapist.

Short Stories, Five Decades
Published in Hardcover by Delacorte Press (October, 1978)
Author: Irwin Shaw
Average review score:

A True Piece of Art!
I whole-heartedly agree with the first reviewer of this book - Irwin Shaw was one of the best (if not THE best) American storyteller(s) of the 20th century. Beautiful prose, great characters, lots of emotion - his books just seem to sparkle with life.

This wonderful collection of short stories - written between the 1930's and the 1980's - will leave you with even deeper admiration of his writing skills if all you've ever read of Mr. Shaw is "Rich Man, Poor Man" (which is an equally great novel).

The Best Short Stories We've All Forgotten
Why have we forgotten this guy? "The Eighty Yard Run" is the greatest short story ever written! And that's just one of the many wonderful stories in this big volume. To think that it's out of print is almost criminal. John F. Kennedy was a fan of Irwin Shaw and you should be, too! Irwin Shaw wrote "Rich Man, Poor Man," which became one of the first TV mini-series back around 1976 or 1977. It was the series that gave Nick Nolte his first break. Along with John O'Hara and John Cheever, Irwin Shaw is one of America's greatest story tellers. The stories in this volume deserve to be put back into circulation!

A strong collection of short stories by a modern master.
Irwin Shaw's best work is found in this collection of short stories. From the "Girls in their pretty dresses" to "God was here but he left early," the reader is allowed to meander through the best short fiction of this century save John O'hara.

Twined Rag Rugs: Tradition in the Making (Tradition in the Making)
Published in Paperback by Krause Publications (September, 2000)
Author: Bobbie Irwin
Average review score:

Tells exactly how to twine
I learned how to twine somewhere else, but I heard that this book had examples of how to make adjustable looms-that is the main reason why I bought the book. In the book it tells the basic way to twine and then some variations. It also tells about looms that can be made at home. It tells a little about what materials would be best to use for your rags. It has beautiful photographs of rugs twined by rag rug twiners in the USA. I did not learn the basics of twining from this book so I am not sure how helpful it would be for a beginner trying to learn strictly from the book. I would reccomend reading the whole book to get all the important hints before you start your rug.

Easy to do and frugal!
I recently bought this book because as a sewer, I have so many scraps. I use a lot of them for quilts, but still have many not useable for that craft. I also have old clothes that aren't fit for charity. Not wanting to add more to the landfill I decided to try my hand at rug making. This book is very easy to understand and follow. My first rug was a great success and was quick and easy to make. The hardest part was relaying what I wanted for a loom to my husband! I would highly recommend this book to any one.

Great book, great craft
Rug twining is an ingeniously simple craft, very humble but potentially dazzling. Bobbie Irwin explains all the techniques in an easy and direct manner. She gives instructions for the various primitive looms you can use. I built the Salish style loom one weekend and it's just superb for twining. Materials used for the rugs range from clothesline cord to cast-off blue jeans to wool, velour, and beyond. Any fabric can be used. The end result is a very sturdy rug that lasts and lasts--and that housecats adore.

I thought it was a great and informative book.
This book told of the trials and tribulations of the characters of the past. It helped new viewers to catch up on the events of the past, while taking life long watchers on a trip down memory lane. Great Job!!

Authors: Donald R. Lehmann and Russell S. Winer

Absolutely Fantastic!
While most marketing books talk at a very high level (targeted towards high-level managers in the organization) this book is the first of its kind that talks at the implementational level. This is a MUST READ for anybody interested in putting together action plans that can be used to get some real-world real-work done. I cannot stress enough how helpful this book has been to me in putting together my marketing plans (product/service based, product/service line based and brand based). Whats fascinating is how easy it is to read this book and quickly start to formalize executional plans. It covers varied topics in small concise chapters detailing different methodologies and where they can be applied. Topics covered range from competitive sets, industry analysis, customer analysis, forecasting markets, segments and everything a marketer needs to develop working marketing plans.

I constantly keep coming back to this book to evaluate how I am organizing my action plans and if I'm doing the right thing (from a process perspective).

BUY THIS BOOK AND BUY IT NOW.

The Best of Trek
Published in Paperback by New American Library (December, 1994)
Authors: Walter Irwin and G.B. Love
Average review score:

The Best of Trek = Trek at it's Best.
I'f you've never read Trek magazine (or even heard of it),don't worry. You're not alone. Until i read this book, i thought the only Star Trek mag was Communicator. Ignoring that, I picked up the book and startred reading. It was full of opinions, facts and debate. It had lots of interesting topics, like who would be my most logical woman for Spock, How Star Trek movies are like literature, and why Classic Trek is better than the '90s trek shows (my favourite). The Best of Trek is Trek at it's Best.

The Best of Trek
If you've never read anything from "Trek - The Magazine for Star Trek fans" , don't worry, you're not the only one. I haven't. When i got this book, the only Star Trek Magazine was the official one, Communicator. So, ignoring the fact, I read it, originally thinking it was a fanfiction book. But it was actually a book about facts, opinin and debate. It had intresting situations, about characters from the series, Classic Trek vs 90's trek, Trekkie conventions and more. The book got me more interested in Star Trek itself, and would highly reccomended it for any Trekkie, casual viewer, or someone who is just slightly interested in.

Product Management (Irwin Series in Marketing)
Published in Hardcover by McGraw-Hill/Irwin (January, 1997)
Authors: Donald R. Lehmann and Russell S. Winer
Average review score:

Too basic to be helpful
This book is seriously too basic to be of any help to a practitioner.

Great book
Explains the steps in product management in extreme detail. Not good for IT products (software), but general. Applies more to non-IT for sure.

Good book.

Fantastic!
This is the ideal book for the product manager/product planner. I have been looking for such a book for years and here it is. What I liked about the book was its no non-sense direct approach to product management. The book covers all topics required to jump start the process. You will learn "what" to accomplish quickly. To learn about the process of product development and that sort of thing you should look into Cooper's "winning at new products" book.

this text covers it all in an very easy to read & grasp style. Topics include defining the competitive set, category attractiveness analysis,... pricing decisions (for a thorough treatment on pricing, I would highly recommend "the strategy and tactics of pricing"), channel management, promotions and financial analysis for product management. The newly added chapter marketing metrics is bang-on.

***Good introductory book for the first line product manager / product planner. Very highly recommended. ***

This book shares some text with the other books these authors have jointly written ("analysis for marketing planning" - another excellent book), but has been changed significantly enough to make reading those shared chapters worthwile if you happen to have both texts.
